What are Full Insured Plans?

Employees are a crucial part of your company's success, which is why it's important to provide the coverage necessary to take care of their health. By protecting your employees, you also protect your business and help maintain productivity. That is why employers avail of full insured plans, a popular choice among small to mid-sized businesses. It is a traditional health insurance model when it comes to insuring employees, as it will involve companies paying a fixed premium to a third-party insurance company for employees enrolled in a health plan. The insurance company will then cover the medical claim expenses of employees covered in the policy contract.

Full insured plans will have annually fixed premium rates. The rates will depend on the number of enrolled employees in the insurance plan per month, along with the policy availed. This type of insurance plan is beneficial as employers will be protected from medical claims, as any health care claims will be paid for by the insurance carrier, with the amount depending on the policy limit. Offering full insured plans will also help increase employee retention, as employer-sponsored health benefits are a deciding factor in choosing or staying at their current job. At RVP Insurance, we can customize a full insured plan that suits your employees' lifestyles without going over your budget. Leveraging our 30 years of experience, we provide various plan levels that will provide the care necessary for your employees to thrive.

The Types of  Full Insured Plans

There are numerous insurance plan options employers can look into when it comes to full insured plans, including the following:

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

This is a common insurance coverage plan that employers offer, which involves employees availing of medical care at discounted rates from the insurance provider's network of doctors and hospitals. The preferred provider organization plan is suitable for companies with employees who want more freedom to choose a healthcare facility and doctor within the insurance company's network.

  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)

Health maintenance organization plans are another common option among employers, which provide a wide range of healthcare services within the HMO’s network of providers. This type of health insurance plan entails lower out-of-pocket costs for the services covered by the HMO.

  • Point of Service (POS)

The point of service plan is a hybrid between HMO and PPO plans. POS plans will require employees to designate a primary care doctor from the provider's network. If an employee decides to avail of services from out-of-network providers, they are subject to a deductible or higher out-of-pocket payment.

  • Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO)

An EPO is similar to HMO as they have a network of doctors that members can avail of medical care, with the exception of emergencies. Members will have a primary care physician who will provide referrals to in-network specialists if necessary and will also be responsible for minor copayments and a deductible.

  • Indemnity Plans

Also called a fee-for-service plan, an indemnity plan involves the insurance company paying a predetermined percentage for a given service, then the insured will pay the rest. Indemnity plans will give you the greatest amount of flexibility possible, as members will be able to choose their preferred doctors and hospitals.
